At 72 years, teacher of history-geography to the retirement, Alain MERMIER found what to occupy his days.
Collector proven since more than 40 years (postcards, sugars, matches, capsules of champagne, beer under-glasses of bier) this impassioned turned to a quite precise food product: postcards… of iris.
True unconditional on this floral being, Albertvillois of the Fort of the Mont decided, in December 2003, to monopolize its attention on the postcards of any kind, where irises appear. Of very varied nature, these cards have quite distinct accents: artistic, humorous, religious… And even of the different supports like silk, fabric or cork.
For this collection, Alain Mermier benefits from three types of sources. Firstly, purses with the postcards. Mainly in Lyon, Grenoble and Annecy. In Rhône-Alpes these gatherings take place roughly every quarter. Its second solution to increase its collection is Internet via the sites of bidding Ebay and Delcampe. Lastly, its third source, friendly relations and family.
With step far from 3,500 parts, the collector stores them in sorters and scans them in order to have them in digital format. Its search, unbounded, has however consequent financial costs. On average, Alain spends more than 1400 € a year. But, it is well-known, when one likes, one does not count.
